HI, I'M SARAH
mess of contradictions
I curse a lot. I don't have a poker face. I like to write with good old fashioned pen and paper. I am sometimes a runner, yogi, artist and soup maker. I haven't killed a plant yet this year (it's still early).
I believe in the inner transformation the act of creating ignites. The common thread of my career is witnessing stories. From working as a bartender, a feature writer, a youth development mentor, and a writing coach, I am consistently dazzled and humbled by the power of a simple story.
I served as the Writer-in-Residence at Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts from 2018-2020. I have an MFA in fiction writing from Goddard College, an MS in rural sociology from the University of Missouri-Columbia, a certificate in Organizational Change from UMC's Truman School of Public Affairs and a BA in creative writing from Webster University.
MISSION + VALUES
I work with people to discover and recover their innate creativity with a focus on increasing holistic health and wellness for individuals and communities.
I approach my work from an antiracist, womanist, anticapitalist, intersectional, collaborative position.
I commit to inclusivity and breaking down barriers.
I believe in growth and accountability, meaning I believe that we are dynamic beings living in a constantly changing world. In order to be healthy individuals and support healthy communities, we must embrace a growth mindset, fail forward, kindly and joyfully hold ourselves accountable for our actions, behaviors, inclusive of intent and outcome.
I strive to dismantle my own oppressive actions so I can show up wholly and in service to all communities, but most importantly the Black, Indigenous and other communities of color that have been historically and continually abused in our white supremacist culture and system.
